Defending your opponent in football requires an athlete have the skills and technique needed for tackling, running and catching. The defensive linemen, linebackers, and defensive backs will study several techniques used to improve hand-eye coordination, agility and speed. Individual strength and conditioning programs will be the key focus for all defensive positions. Weigh room sessions will target the athlete’s shoulders, neck and core area to increase muscle and build stability; legs weights and exercises will be added to increase the athlete’s explosiveness off the line of scrimmage.
The defensive lineman program focuses on pass rush skills, hand drills, and speed drills; while linebackers will learn all of the defensive positions and the skills and techniques to go along. These skills will cover defending the tight end, blocking the opponent, and awareness of the ball. Defensive backs will learn the proper skills and techniques needed to defend the receiver. Excellent hand-eye coordination and speed is a must for this position.
